To spend $425m jointly, “Mega Project” to come up in Jharkhand
India’s leading conglomerate TATA and US’ Cummins recently announced investment of 34.5 Billion Rupees to jointly build Hydrogen ICE factory in India. The factory will be producing Hydrogen internal combustion Engines. The factory will be setup in the city of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand where TATA already has their automotive manufacturing plant. Jharkhand state government has classified this project as “Mega Project” meaning the project is eligible for subsidies for Zero emission Automakers under state’s industrial policy of 2021
The joint venture will be known as TSPL Green Energy Solutions Pvt Ltd (TGESPL). The plant will produce y 4000 Hydrogen engines and also 10,000 Battery Systems and unknown number of Fuel Agnostic engines. Cummins is already developing 6.7L and 15L version of its Hydrogen ICE technology. As part of this deal Indian market will become one of the first markets to receive these Hydrogen ICE technology products.
What are Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines?
Hydrogen combustion engine is an engine which uses Hydrogen for Internal combustion. Unlike Hydrogen Fuel cell vehicles, which use Hydrogens electrochemical process for power generation, hydrogen ICE use Hydrogen as fuel for internal combustion elimination carbon based pollutants in emissions.
